The difference between Your and You're...

Not too long ago, I was driving home when I saw a Toyota Supra. To anyone into import cars and the car tuning scene, the Supra is a nice car. Being into cars and such, I like the Supra. I don't like it nearly as much as I like the Subaru Impreza STi, but I like that car nonetheless. Pulling up next to the Supra while it was stopped at a red light, I gave the driver a quick compliment. I said something like "That's a nice car" and left it at that. The guy simply nodded in acknowledgement. The guy, realizing I know that the Supra is a nice car, decided he wanted to showoff so he basically peels out and takes off since he and I were at the front-most cars of our respective lanes.

Here's the funny part. When the guy took off, I saw a large sticker on his rear window. It said "Your Losing". When I saw that, I started laughing simply because of how idiotic that sticker was and how Your was used instead of You're. The absurdity of the mistake was hilarious. Something else I found really funny is that there was actually a sticker that had that mistake to begin with, let alone someone willing to let that mistake be put on his car.

After I saw the sticker, I lost complete self-respect for the guy and his car. When I caught up to him at the next red light, I HAD to tell him. "Hey, man, didja know your sticker is spelled wrong? It's supposed to be Y-O-U-apostrophe-R-E, not Y-O-U-R" The guy simply looked at me like I was a wiseass and simply jetted off once the light turned green. I never saw him or his car after that.

Anyway, when I noticed that sticker, I realized that our education system must either suck or we are a world full of idiots when people can't discern the difference between Your and You're. Seriously, how hard is it to discern a difference? We've got fuckers out there that know the difference between the 'Red Pill' and the 'Blue Pill' and their meanings in The Matrix movie, but not know the difference between Your and You're. Congratulations, you remember shit that does nothing to make you actually less stupid than you already are.

Now, I assume the people out there, especially the people reading this, aren't THAT stupid. I assume they're simply ignorant of the difference. That can be easily explained away. The difference between Your and You're is really simple. While they sound phonetically the same, their meanings aren't.

Your = possessive of 'You'.
You're = contraction of 'you are'.

Okay, perhaps big words like 'possessive' and 'contraction' might not be in your vocabulary. I can simplify it even more. I'm sure you guys know how to spell 'are'. Just pretend that only the last two letter of 'are' are being used, those being 're'. Now, if you look at You're, it has 're' in it as well. Therefore, if you see a word like You're, that means it has the word 'are' in it. Therefore it means 'You ARE'. Just take not that apostrophe 're' is short for 'are'.

All I know is that it's not THAT hard to discern the difference between Your and You're if you take that little bit of effort to try. Not knowing the difference between those two really shows off a sense of ignorance in a person that can be easily mistaken for stupidity. There are also many other idiosyncrasies that bother the hell outta me, like people not knowing the difference between There, They're, and Their, but that doesn't bother me quite as much as people unable to discern the difference between Your and You're.

Now, I betcha all you people out there probably wanna go check over my stories and rants to try and find those mistakes, to see if I'm just as ignorant as the people this rant is about. Lemme save you the trouble, you WILL find those mistakes. Why? Because they're MISTAKES, not the kinda mistakes I'm unaware of because I'm stupid and don't know the difference, but simple mistakes I will most likely catch and correct if I bother to edit more thoroughly. If you point out ANY mistake I've made between those two words, I sure I'll know how to correct it on my own without your help. When I make a mistake like using Your instead of You're and vice versa, they're simple mistakes, typos in a sense. They're not mistakes made out of ignorance or stupidity.

Man, I wish more people out there know the difference between Your and You're
