People are too quick to judge
I believe I'm a pretty open minded individual. I would like to believe I'm a critical thinker and usually take in facts before arriving at my own conclusion.
I like to debate. I think debating is a very good way of learning things you didn't know, especially if you argue against someone with a similar way of thinking as I do yet have a different stance on what I believe.
Unfortunately, it's really hard to find people like that to debate with as I TRULY believe I am in the minority, that there are not that many people that are open-minded like I am. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I leave that up to you to decided.
This is the thing that gets my panties in a bunch. Yes, I said panties. Of course, it's not like I'm wearing any even though they would probably feel really good if I did. Think about it, guys can buy a pack of 3 boxers for as little as 5 bucks, which they usually do. One pair of girls panties costs a whole lot more than a guy's 3-pack of boxers so I think the quality is much better and thus the higher price. Besides, if I was wearing panties, it'd be on the top of my head so they'd be in a bunch on top of my head if that were the case. Anyway, that's not the point.
I don't care about celebrities. Really I don't. However, I find it hard to avoid seeing coverage of the Michael Jackson trial. Well, I was talking to someone about it, commenting about how I see mention of it everywhere. It's like the OJ Simpson trial all over again. Well, the person made a comment that annoyed me.
Person: I hope MJ burns in Hell, that child-molesting pedophile.
Me: Why do you say that?
Person: Because he did it
Me: Are you sure?
Person: Yes. I know he did it. He's as guilty as sin.
Me: Well, if you KNOW he did it, then it's your civil responsibility to testify
against him.
Person: Well, it's not like that.
Me: Well, it's obvious you know something the prosecution doesn't know, right?
Why not contact them and tell them what you know so the trial could come to
a speedy verdict.
Person: Well, it's not like I truly KNOW he did it...
Me: Then shut the fuck up.
I can't stand people that think like that. There are too many people out there that think they know something when they obviously don't. I'm just flabbergasted at how people could come to a conclusion about something without knowing the details. Granted, maybe it's my fault for taking that comment literally, but I figured it'd be good to set the person straight.
There're many things I can point out to people and back up those points, yet people still don't seem to grasp the meaning behind my words. For instance, I love living in the USA. There are plenty of times where I thoroughly enjoy the freedom I have in this country. Now, what bothers me is that there are people that claim to KNOW that the USA is the best country on Earth, the best country to live in.
Now, how is that possible? Did these people visit EVERY country on the Earth so they could compare the USA to EVERY country in the world in order to come up to such a conclusion? While I tend to assume nothing, with something like this, I highly doubt it.
I don't know much about living in the USA. Aside from Canada, I've never been outside the USA so I have no right claiming the USA is the best country on Earth to live in. Heck, even if the 'Earth' is comprised of nothing but the USA and Canada, I STILL can't claim the USA is the best place to live because I haven't even been in Canada long enough to come to the conclusion that it sucks. Don't try and argue, Canada, you gave us Celine Dion. You're a bad country ;P All I know is that I love living here in the USA. I just don't know if this is the best country to live. I'm sure many people out there will argue against me.
Let's just say EVERY American KNOWS the USA is the best place on Earth. That's around 250+million. The number isn't exact but bear with me. Now, that leaves around 5+ billion people to the rest of the world. Do you truly believe that 5+billion people out there are stupider than you to not realize that the USA is the best place to live? If we assume you are part of the 250+million people that KNOW the USA is the best place to live, that means you are basically smarter that 95% of the ENTIRE world since they don't KNOW the USA is the best place to live. Wow, you're really smart.
What if I argue against you? Do you think I'm stupid for doing so? Should I value your opinion that the USA is the best place to live even though you have no experience or qualification in making such a statement? Heck, how can I value your opinion when you've never been to many other countries and therefore don't have the ability to use those countries as references to come to the conclusion that the USA is the best place to live?
Go ahead, foam at the mouth and be patriotic. Send me an email saying "If you don't love the USA, then get the fuck out". Well, congratulations. In my eyes, you are an idiot for the meaning of this rant has totally escaped you. Either that or you are too close-minded to understand my rant. If anything YOU should get the fuck out of the USA because I live in the USA and I don't want people like YOU living in the same country as I do. It just seems to escape you that this rant isn't really about if the USA is the best place to live or not but rather how quick people are to make a conclusion about something without knowing the details. I can argue about basically anything provided I believe I'm knowledgeable of the subject. I just happened to use the USA and people claiming it as the best place on Earth to live as an example of how people are quick to judge.
You see, someone claiming to KNOW that the USA is the best place to live is asinine, not unless they've visited every country out there. It's no different than someone picking up their very first porno and claiming they KNOW that that is the best porno created. How the hell do they know that it is the best? What about a person that's been with only one person and believing that he/she is their soulmate? They have no point of reference to make comparisons, no form of details, yet they're arriving upon a conclusion. This is what bothers me, people arriving upon a conclusion without details. Why can't they just acknowledge something like 'I'll make no claim that the USA is the best place to live. But based on what I do know, I like living there.'
People who have been offended by this rant because it might hit close to home might feel the need to point out my hypocrisy, that I probably don't know anything about what I'm ranting about. Heck, if you read my rants, you know I have been hypocritical at times, like using the word 'fucktard' even though I expressed contempt towards the combining of words. Of course, I try my best to not be hypocritical. If it makes you feel better to flame me, go right ahead. What better way to slam someone than to "hoist them by their own petard", by beating them at their own game?
But once again, you doing so will prove to me exactly what my rant is about, people come to conclusions about something without details. You don't know me yet you have already come to the conclusion that you don't probably like me and want to slam me out of spite. If you come to the conclusion that you don't like me and want to slam me AFTER you realized what kind of person I am and the way I think and why I think it, then I will not dismiss your email so readily. If you provide a detailed explanations of my folly, I WILL humbly apologize and acknowledge it, and therefore, come out of this a more learned and better person. I TRY to practice what I preach, but I'm prone to make mistakes just like everyone else and would like it if people point it out to me so I can learn from them. Heck, you can call me a 'stupid cocksucker' if you want but I seriously hope you give a good reason as to why you would call me something like that in the first place.
Now you may believe that I should practice what I preach, that I shouldn't slam people right away because of a single comment they say. Well, that's not the point of this rant. The point is how people are quick to judge without details. I'm not slamming the physical person that thinks like that. I'm slamming on the actually thought process people rely upon. I hope that I have provided you enough details to justify my conclusion, that you believe I didn't make a quick judgment without the necessary details to back it up.
Anyway, people are quick to judge.
